CREATING A SAFE SPACE: Talking About Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

about this event

You are invited to our first SOUNDFOOD workshop led by our guest this week, Valerie Harvey and our host Nitsa Citrine.

Valerie is a Cornell-trained DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) facilitator, co-host of the podcast On The Bias and successful makeup artist.

In recognition of February, Black History Month, SOUNDFOOD is activating dialogue around diversity and inclusivity and amplifying BIPOC voices on our platform.

While this is an ongoing endeavor and lifelong process, Valerie will guide us through this hour-long workshop and provide a foundation for more conscious communication about race.

Valerie’s words on the workshop:

The new decade ushered in an overwhelming flood of unexpected transition for every soul on earth. But out of the chaos emerged deep revelations about the world we live in and the perceptual, institutional and psychological processes that impact the ways we interact with one another. Many have answered the cal for meaningful change, but with this new awareness, there is a question that still begs an answer: Where do we go from here? In this workshop, I take you through an insightful guide to unpacking privilege and navigating meaningful relationships with BIPOC people and others on the fringes of the dominate white, male, hetero normative lens we’ve been forced to look through. With the focus on the psychological safety of all who are brave enough to open themselves up in this most vulnerable way, together we can create a safe space to learn how to implement the most authentic version of diversity, inclusion and equity.

TIckets are donation based and all proceeds from the event will go to The Thirst Project, a non-profit building wells in underdeveloped nations.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged.
